I
would like to wish you all a belated happy, healthy and successful New
Year. I hope you are all enjoying a
good start to the breeding season.
Following
our very successful 2007 open show we have been awarded gold patronage for our
2008 show which is to be held as usual at our HQ on August 31st, a wonderful
achievement! Sincere thanks to all who
helped to make it such a wonderful day.
We are planning to make this year’s show another one to remember by
continuing to give special awards and extra prize money for members. Once again a Somerset BS bone china mug will
be given to everyone who benches birds.
We are continuing to award £200 for the most benched birds in each
section including juniors (members only) - £25 for the most and £15 for second
highest.
Tim
Potter will be setting the fundraising ball rolling for this year’s open show
by organising a Bingo evening on March 8th at Rockwell Green Village
Hall. The doors open at 6.30 and Bingo
starts at 7.30. Refreshments will be
available during the break. Tim raised
well over £200 last year, lets hope he can do the same again. I am sure Tim would like to see a few
members supporting this event.
The
annual BBQ at my home on July 21st will continue to be a fundraising evening,
incorporating a 50-50 auction and a donated bird sale/auction. During the evening you will have the
opportunity to make visits to my aviary and Paul Griffin’s. Bring along any unwanted items and make a
few pounds towards our Open Show fund as well as for yourself - you can find
further details on the 2008 programme of events. Please bring your family and friends (an indication of numbers
would be appreciated a week or two before the event, if possible, for catering
purposes).
The AGM
saw some changes to the officers of the club.
We have a new Patronage Secretary, Tony Gray to whom I am personally
very grateful, as I have been covering this job for well over twenty years with
the exception of one year. Now I will
be able to give more time to my other duties.
Paul Wiggins takes over two officer responsibilities - Fund Raising
Manager and Trophy Secretary, well done Paul.
It is great to see the jobs being shared amongst the committee members.
The Chris Daniels Member of the Year Trophy was very deservedly won by Tim Potter in recognition of his hard work behind the scenes, fundraising, and his generosity providing free of charge his wonderful meat products for our Open Show and BBQ

and club event reminders. If you are
on-line and would like to receive this service, please contact me with your

add you to the ever-growing list of members and friends who are on-line. It will help me to make easy contact and
save the club postage. If any member
wants to sell any bird items or place an advert on the Members Sales page
please send details and I will upload them as soon as possible.
Last year a few members were missed when the schedules were posted, for this we can only apologise. If for any reason you were not sent a copy last year can you please make sure that we have your address so that our members list can be updated accordingly.
Accompanying this newsletter is our 2008 Programme of Events, which I hope you will do your best to support. So far this year we have had a very disappointing turnout of members at our monthly meetings. I am not to sure why, except that I have cut out the winter Sunday afternoon meetings, maybe I was wrong to do this, what do think? Please let me know if you have any suggestions for future meetings.
